Honda Picks Up Six “Best Cars For The Money” Awards from U.S. News & World Report

Five Honda models honored in six different vehicle categories

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 9, 2016 – Five Honda models have been honored with six “Best Cars for the Money” awards by U.S. News & World Report. The 2016 Civic was named “Best Compact Car for the Money,” the 2016 Honda HR-V was named “Best Subcompact SUV for the Money,” the 2016 Honda Odyssey was named “Best Minivan for the Money,” the 2016 Honda Pilot was named “Best 3-Row SUV for the Money,” and for the second year in a row, the 2016 Honda Fit was named both “Best Hatchback for the Money” and “Best Subcompact Car for the Money.”

“Honda is committed to building vehicles that bring joy to our customers and ultimately deliver long-term value,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. “Quality and value for money are key attributes customers expect when buying a Honda, and these awards recognize the brand’s ongoing fulfillment of that promise.”

The “Best Cars for the Money” methodology combines quality and value data into a composite score. Within each of 21 award categories, the vehicle with the highest score is named the “Best Car for the Money” in that category. Quality is measured by the overall score a vehicle achieved in the U.S. News car rankings at the time the awards are published. The rankings, updated monthly at www.usnews.com/cars, compare cars on the basis of safety, reliability and a consensus of industry experts’ opinions. Value is measured by a combination of a vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership and the average price paid for the vehicle at the time the awards are published.

Airbag Recall

For Immediate Release

Statement by American Honda Regarding Nationwide Recall of Certain Takata PSDI-5 Driver Front Airbag Inflators

·         Approximately 2.23 million Takata PSDI-5 driver front airbag inflators will require replacement in Honda and Acura vehicles in the U.S.
·         No PSDI-5 inflator ruptures have been reported in Honda or Acura vehicles
·         Takata inflators will be replaced with parts from an alternative supplier with repairs beginning in the Summer of 2016

TORRANCE, Calif. – February 3, 2016 – Based on a recent Defect Information Report (16E-005) from the airbag inflator supplier, Takata, Honda will conduct a national recall (16V-061) of approximately 2.23 million Honda and Acura vehicles in the United States to replace, free of charge to vehicle owners, the PSDI-5 Takata driver front airbag inflators installed in those vehicles. Honda has received no reports of Takata PSDI-5 inflator ruptures in Honda or Acura vehicles worldwide.
Honda plans to replace all of these recalled inflators with new parts from an alternative supplier at no cost to owners of Honda and Acura vehicles. Due to the large volume of new inflators needed to repair vehicles, the necessary replacement parts will not become available until Summer 2016. As a result, owners of affected vehicles will be informed of the recall in an initial notification letter within 60 days. Once replacement parts become available, Honda will send a second notification letter to owners with instructions to pursue repair at their local authorized dealer. The second round of notifications will prioritize older model year vehicles located in certain High Absolute Humidity regions1 and will expand to other areas of the country as more replacement parts become available.
The most up-to-date available consumer information about this action can be obtained at www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (888) 234- 2138. The list of specific vehicle identification numbers (VIN) to be included in this recall has not yet been determined. Therefore, a VIN search at our websites or NTHSA’s recall site is not possible yet for this action. We anticipate that concerned owners of  the affected models will be able to accurately search their vehicles’ recall status on these sites beginning on February 15, 2016.
With this new action, a total of approximately 8.51 million Honda and Acura vehicles have been or now are subject to replacement of a Takata driver and/or passenger front airbag inflator in the United States.
